Church Closing Down Again-Rising Covid Numbers
Nov. 18, 2020
An Update from Pastor Roger Regarding the Covid-19 Virus and Worship at Westminster
Dear Members of our Westminster Family:
With your health-both physical and spiritual-our top priority-Westminster’s Session has voted to close Westminster through Dec. 31, 2020. There will be no in-person worship at this time. Therefore, we will return to a pre-recorded Sunday service on our YouTube Channel. At this point, we will plan on a pre-recorded Christmas Eve service, too. In addition to online services, we will be sending via e-mail, a series of Advent devotionals in the coming weeks. And as always, staff will continue to work on your behalf. We will be available by phone and e-mail.
This was not an easy decision to make nor is this an easy letter to write. When Westminster resumed restricted in-person worship in August, we hoped that through prudence and precautionary measures, the state of Iowa and more densely populated areas like Linn County, could gain control over the Covid-19 virus. That has not been the case.
This is such an important time in the Christian year that it is hard to make these sacrifices. But, as Covid cases and deaths continue to mount, sacrifice, we must.
Finally, pray for God’s continued presence in our world, as we enter a difficult time for all. Pray for those who are sick, and those who take care of them. Remember those who have died, and pray that our leaders develop plans for the equitable distribution of the vaccines that are on the horizon. Until then, God be with you ‘til we meet again.
