Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry has been serving Wellington Heights and the surrounding area for nearly 30 years. The pantry is housed in the mission house of Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1251 Third Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids. It is, however a joint ministry of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Christ Episcopal Church. Both churches provide financial support for the pantry. Loaves and Fishes also partners with HACAP to provide as much variety as possible for its clients.
Loaves and Fishes prides itself on providing choices for clients, because choices afford dignity. Besides providing a variety of foods, the pantry is set up to allow clients to pick items to take home.
Volunteers at Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry pray for volunteers and clients the same day the Governor's sweeping Corona-Virus Declaration was released. L&F will continue to distribute food-pre-bagged during the virus alert.
Members of Christ Episcopal Church, an L&F partner, visit the mission house and get acquainted.
Loaves & Fishes relies on donations of all kinds. Buffalo Ridge Orchard donated 250 pounds of apples in October.
Volunteers pray before opening the doors to clients-a weekly ritual.
Volunteers from Loaves and Fishes say thank you to the HACAP staff with a plaque crafted by Al Boyden. Much of the food distributed at Loaves and Fishes is provided by HACAP.
